Siwiec, Adalbert (George) 1878 - 1955
Name variants: First name: Adalbert in English = Wojciech in Polish; sometimes Adelbert.
He seems to have taken the name George when in the US.
Child of: Valentine and Sophia Lochol
Born: April 23, 1878 in Zagorzyce-Ropczyce, Poland
Died: May 16, 1955
Emigrated: There are two possibilities.
1. See Ellis Island passenger record This is likely the person, though the first name is spelled Wojtiech, because the age of 26 with arrival date, April 13, 1905, match correctly with his date of birth and because the "Last Place of Residence" Kolbuszowa is only 10 or 12 miles from his birthplace with a highway between. The problem with this person is that he married before arriving.
2. The other possiblity is Ellis Island passenger record. For this person the first name is spelled correctly, the date of arrival is August 5, 1902 and age at arrival is 23. However the "Last Place of Residence" is Bukowico, over 100 miles from birthplace.

Baptized February 3, 1907 St. Joseph's Church, Rockaway Road, Jamaica, NY.
A 1920 baptismal certificate record has 28th crossed out and marked 29th for birth. A 1916 datebook agrees.
Died: November 13, 1992 at Dover Hospital, Dover, NJ.
His death certificate states that the
Immedate cause of death was: Peritonitis,

Which occurred: eight days before death.
Other significant conditions: Organic brain syndrome; Parkinson's disease.
Married: Marie Rose Kurczab 09/29/1940 at St. Stephen's Church, Perth Amboy, NJ.
Here is the likelihood on how they met.
An article in a Polish newspaper from July 18, 1937 states that Frank is the President of the Polish Chamber of Commerce
and it will be having its first picnic. The Vice President is stated as being Antoni Kurczab.
Children: Frank Edward, Stephen Thomas
Remarks:
-
Amer Prod Co representative in 1926.
-
Graduate of the International Correspondence Schools, of Scranton, PA.
On November 28, 1927 he received a diploma for their Complete Commercial Course
and on January 21, 1930 he received a diploma for their Accountancy and C. P. A. Coaching Course.
Outdoor ad sign tacker in 1931.
-
On November 18, 1933 he applied for enrollment for the Complete University Extension Law Course
of the LaSalle Extension University. In the application he described himself as a Real Estate Broker.
Due to this course he purchased a set of fourteen volumes of "American Law and Procedure".
-
A 1934 advertisement for Alka-Seltzer has a picture of my father with the statement:
"I have used your Alka-Seltzer for Headache and found it very effective to relieve and very pleasant to take.
F. P. Siwiec, Perth Amboy, N.J."
-
A September 7, 1934 article in the South Amboy Citizen states
"Among the business leaders in Perth Amboy an unprejudiced observer couldn't help but single out as worthy of
special mention Mr. P. Siwiec, of 452 Lawrence St., Perth Amboy,
one of that city's leading realtors and insurance men..."
-
His insurance and real estate business was initially at his home at 452 Lawrence Street,
but in very late 1937 he established an office at 197 Hall Avenue.
On December 15, 1944 he formally filed the name of his business
as being "Frank P. Siwiec & Co." in the state of New Jersey.
(I don't know when he incorporated the business.)
-
In 1946 he drew a graph of the income of his company: 1931 $23.92, 1932 $90.24, 1933 $81.52,
staying steadily low through 1939, but then shooting up so that by 1946 it was $9,976.36.
In 1947 he had a sales meet at Monmouth Beach for his real estate sales force. He informed them that
with an average selling price of homes and businesses of $8,000.,
there was a half million dollars negotiated for the year.
-
The real estate and insurance office was relocated to 336 State Street, Perth Amboy
with the official opening being on November 5, 1949.
In an advertisement in the local newspaper he states the staff as being:
himself as President, wife as Secretary-Treasurer, Violet Malowski as Office Secretary,
Joseph Sawicz as Real Estate Salesman, John Bartko as Real Estate Salesman, Walter T. Kross as Real Estate Salesman,
Anthony S. Majewski as Real Estate Salesman, and Mike Arlone as Insurance Solictor.
This address is on the second-most shopping street in the city, a block and a half from the center of town
and across the street from a savings bank.
This was far better than the previous address on Hall Avenue which was a secondary business area
--- mostly Polish --- a mile from the main business area.
See the pictures of the two offices:
197 Hall Avenue.
another view of 197 Hall Avenue.
336 State Street front.
336 State Street inside.
-
Early on he joined numerous service organizations, Elks, Lions, in order to be sociable and find contacts for his business.
An ad taken in the Perth Amboy Evening News on Nov. 29, 1950 states that it is the 20th anniversary
of the business. The ad states the staff as being:
Frank P. Siwiec, Marie R. Siwiec, Sally Babulak, Joseph Sawicz, John Bartko, Michael Arnone,
Anthony S. Majewski, Walter T. Kross, John Pollack, and Walter S. Pryga.
Sally Babulak was probably the front desk person. The others were real estate sales people,
Sawicz, Bartko, Majewski and Kross working many years.
I recall my mother speaking disparigingly of Pryga as being a politician.
-
In addition to the insurance and real estate business my father also translated Polish-to-English
for people.
-
My mother increasingly became involved with their antique business.
When they moved to a busy traffic street, King George Road, in Warren, they modified the house to
be suitable for an antique business.
They took numerous trips around the New Jersey New York area looking for antiques that they could
sell.
They particularly liked a wholesaler of antiques in Westchester County NY, around Chappaqua,
and going into retirement he did also.
-
In his mid/late-60s he retired from his insurance business by selling/merging his business with
Boynton Bros & Co on March 31, 1975.
-
Parkinson's disease increasingly incapacidated him for the last years of his
life; his wife never could understand this, charterizing him as lazy.
-
He told me that he had worked as a fireman—person who kept the fire going by shoveling fuel
into the furnace—at the Copper Works in Perth Amboy.
He also mentioned climbing the stairs of an oil storage tank at an oil refinery.
His wife, my mother, mentioned to me that she talked him out of such dangerous work.

Siwiec, Marie Rose 1910 - 1995
Name variants: Nee: Marja Rose Kurczabowna; familiarly: Mamie
Child of: Frank and Agnes
Born: January 21, 1910 Lubicz St., Kraków, Poland. Name date: Feb. 2nd.
Her father's naturalization certificate of 1924 states born in 1909.
Kraków school record from 1920 states 1910, though that 1910 is written over
1908.
Citizenship application agrees.
Some more recent papers say 1912, which seems wrong.
Died: July 17, 1995 Overlook Hospital, Summit, NJ.
The Death Certificate does not state any cause of death, just stating "Natural".
Married: Frank Peter Siwiec 09/29/1940
at St. Stephen's Church, Perth Amboy, NJ
Children: Frank Edward, Stephen Thomas
Remarks: Real estate, insurance. Antiques in retirement.
Arrived in U.S.: New York, on Oct. 15, 1920 (The Immigration Act of 1924 severly restricted immigrants from Poland. Shall we say she was lucky.) with her brother Tommy
on Steamer Adriatic (White Har Line) out of Southampton England.
This date was stated by Tommy in a letter to her, possibly in 1952.
See Ellis Island passenger record which states her name as "Marja" and Last Place of Residence being Kraków, Poland. R4
Father, Frank, came to the U.S. seven years earlier.
Was a minor when she came to the U.S.
and so became a U.S. citizen by her father's naturalization in 1924;
but applied formally for citizenship and granted on Nov. 16, 1953.
Move to Orange, NJ: Marie was likely the one to have pushed for a move out of Perth Amboy due to an explosion that took place
at the Copper Works in June 1949—it blew out the front window of the insurance office at 336 State Street. So we moved to 434 Conover Terrace in Orange on September 1, 1951.

I noticed on your page that you didn't have much info for her. She passed away February 2, 1997 in Freehold, NJ. Yes she does have 12 children. Stanley, John, Richard, Robert (Bob), George, Theodore (Ted), Carol, Patricia, MaryAnn, James (Jimmy), Michael (Mickey), Tommy. Those are not in age order but Stanley is the oldest named after his father. We do have a photo of Grandma Julia if you would like a copy for your records. You can definitely see the family resemblance in a picture of her and what I've seen of your father. My father in-law is a twin with Robert and he has mentioned your father's name in the past. Just thought I would share some information with you for your site. I came across your site because we have been searching for our oldest Uncle. Stanley. He is the only one that has lost contact with the family. Also a side note. Julia Truszkowski was known to have every child with her for Xmas. This tradition still goes on. Every Xmas eve the whole family gets together with their children and children's children for dinner and we stand around the table and break communion as she did back then.
